He began trombone at aged 8. At first, playing classical music with school orchestras and local brass bands.

He studied classical music at Leeds College of Music.

At age 12 he was playing in a swing/big band playing Glenn Miller tunes. He heard a recording of New Orleans trombone player Kid Ory and became hooked on that style of jazz.

In 1989 he moved to New Orleans and worked there for the next 10 years, playing with many of the old time musicians at Preservation Hall, the Mississippi riverboats, and jazz clubs and festivals.

In 2003 Mike moved to Århus, Denmark.

Here he runs the Bordello Bedwarmers and the Woodland Jazz Band.

Mikes major influences on jazz trombone are Kid Ory, Jim Robinson, Louis Nelson, Frog Joseph, Trummy Young, Jack Teagarden and Vic Dickenson.

Mike can be booked as a solo guest artist, or provide bands for whatever function is required.
